To Rich For Justice?

In an outrageous ruling, 16 year old Texas teen Ethan Couch was given only 10 years probation and a year of rehab in a fancy rehab center  for a drunk driving accident  that killed 4 people and seriously injured 2 others.  His lawyer successfully argued that because he led an entitled life, and his parents let him have anything he wanted, he had no concept of personal responsibility.  Justice is supposed to be blind, and no one should be above the law due to their wealth or social standing, or below it do to their lack thereof. Hopefully, the prosecutors can find some  loophole and get him some prison time!

The Shutdown

Thank you to all the rational voices in Congress who helped end the government shutdown!  This just goes to show you that when members of political parties put aside their egos and look to what’s good for the country, things can get done!  There were no winners in this, hopefully soon the extremes of both sides can be marginalized, and more common sense will prevail.

The Town From Hell

You, Maryville, Missouri, have to be the most horrible town in America!  You run a girl that was raped by a popular athlete and her family out of town, and treat them like the perp.  Just goes to show it’s who you know….

Bad Idea!

Keeping Your Kids Safe Online

This Article is about a California School District that paid a company to monitor its students’ social media for signs of violence, bullying, truancy, drug use, and suicidal thoughts.  This is a good idea, but should be used as a supplement to parental attention.  Parents:

1: Keep the family computer in a common area, where you can keep an eye on your kids.

2: Be aware of who your children are friends of online.

3: Make them friend you, whether they like it or not

4: Make them give you their passwords, whether they like it or not

5: THE MOST IMPORTANT: Tell your kids that if anything happens to them that doesn’t feel right, they can come to you without and prejudgement! Listen to any concerns they have.

Justice Served?

However you feel about the verdict in the George Zimmernan trial,  the one thing you must remember is that the American system of Justice played itself out as it was designed too.  Mr. Zimmerman was given a trial by a jury of his peers, and the Prosecution failed to prove their case.  For those of you who are not satisfied with the verdict, please keep calm, and show your disappointment in peaceful ways, don’t start riots or any other means of violence.  There were no winners in this case. There is a 17 year old boy who has lost his life, leaving behind grieving parents, and Mr. Zimmerman’s life will never be the same again.

On This 4th Of July…

Here are some reasons we Americans   should be proud to be citizens of this great country:

1:  You  have free speech. You can say whatever you want, though it’s always wise to think before you speak.

2:  You have the freedom of religion (or lack thereof). Practice whatever faith you want to, or if you don’t want to subscribe to any religion, you won’t get into trouble.

3:  Don’t like how the government is being run?  IF YOU ARE 18 OR OLDER, VOTE!

4: Also, you can voice your displeasure  with the government without being arrested or otherwise harassed

5:  In trouble with the law?  You will get a fair trial

6:  Woman or a minority? You’ll be treated (at least in theory) as equal to white males.

7: Don’t want cops just busting in without good reason? They need a warrant

Sure the US isn’t perfect but……

Paula Deen-A Case Of Foot And Mouth Disease

What is your opinion of Paula Deen being fired by the Food Network for her admission that she used the N word and wanted to make a plantation era party complete with black men dressed as servants?  One the one hand, she is a 60 plus year old Daughter of the South, growing up during the beginnings of the Civil Rights era, and probably picked up some of the language from her parents. On the other hand, she probably should have did a bit of thinking before she spoke. We  don’t know what’s in her heart, so we have to believe that her apology is sincere. Hopefully this will make her a better person in the end.

Tater Tot Hot Dish has been a part of my supper life for as long as I can remember. My mom used to make this for our family when I was a kid and now my wife makes this for us. This tater tot hot dish has cheese and vegetables in it an is delicious and is an easy recipe to make. It used all common ingredients like frozen vegetables, hamburger, etc.

  • Salt and Pepper

  7. Enjoy your tater tot hot dish!

A common variation of this recipe is to make this tater tot hot dish with corn.  Everyone has there preferences, and don’t get me wrong, I like corn, but corn isn’t something I love in things besides some salsas.

My wife has made this tater tot hot dish with green beans quite often and this is equally as good.  The vegetable you choose to use comes down to your personal preference.

In my video we used a cup of frozen vegetables and a can of green  beans because we didn’t quite have 2 whole cups of the frozen vegetables.  Don’t be afraid to experiment and mix things up with these recipes.  Cooking is supposed to be fun and every family has different tastes when it comes to there family meals.

Overcoming Tragedy-Boston Rocks!

Props to the Citizens of Boston and the surrounding towns for their courage and patience, and to the Law Enforcement authorities who helped bring 1 of the marathon bomber to Justice. You mess with one American, you mess with all of us, and  to those who would want to do us harm with acts of terrorism, you can run but you can’t hide!  Our lawmen are the best in the world!  Let’s not forget the 4 who died, and all those injured, our thought and prayers are with them.

Where Were The Parents? And The Downside of Social Media

After hearing about 2 innocent young girls who took their own lives because they were raped, the boys who did it took videos and pictures and posted them online, we are left wondering:

Where were the boys’ parents when it came to teaching them how to treat women?  You just do not take advantage of a drunken  girl!  You take them back to their own home, not rape them!

And you most certainly do not record your crimes and post it online!

And for the ones who shame the victim and say it’s there fault….there is a special place in Hell for you.

There are downsides to every form of technology, and this one had a tragic end, and there will probably be more….

How Would The Christian Conservative Community Deal With Jesus If He Were With Us Today?

byRural ProgressiveFollow

Cross posted at Hillbilly Report

I'm not writing this to anger my fellow Christians. I writing this so that we might ask ourselves the following questions.

How would Jesus would fit in modern day America?

Would he be welcomed or would he meet the same demise he met when he first appeared?

How would he be welcomed in your church?

How would his criticism of your church be received, by your church leaders?

Would he tell America it needs to spend more on bombs, weapons of mass destruction, etc. and less on the poor and disenfranchised?

What would he think upon seeing Christian leaders living opulent lifestyles while the masses suffer?

How would the established Christian community act when folks stopped listening to them and started listening to him, at his mass rallies?

How would the established Christian community respond when folks started giving their money to Jesus rather than them?

If Jesus were with us today where would he be living? Would he be living with the masses or living in opulence with rich religious leaders?

Would Jesus have a concealed carry permit?

Would he pass a background check?

If he drew a crowd on a busy street would he be cited for not having permit for a rally?

How would the fast food industry react if Jesus bought two big Mac's and five orders of french fries and fed thousands with some left over? Would they lobby their Christian conservative friends in Congress to stop that?

How would the Wine industry react if Jesus started turning water into wine? Would they lobby their Christian conservative friends in Congress to stop that?

How would the healthcare insurance companies react if Jesus started healing the sick for free? Would they lobby their Christian conservative friends in Congress to stop that?

Just asking. Feel free to ask your questions in the comment section.

Death From Above

What do you think of the Administration saying that it is ok to  kill Americans fighting with terrorist organizations who are against us by drone strikes, without the benefit of a trial?  On the one hand, Most Americans would say that any American who took up arms against their own country deserves to be put to death as a traitor, but on the other hand, it does look a bit unseemly to deny  a citizen of the U.S. his or her right to a fair trial, especially with their life on the line.

The Clock Is Ticking Down

Looks like the Congress and the President are not going to be able to reach a deal on spending cuts, and even more severe ones are on the way.  This is going to affect just about everyone, from long lines at airports due to reduced TSA security,, Head Start being reduced, and USDA inspections in doubt due to a possible reduction in staff. They need to get their acts together!

Mark Warden New Hampshire

New Hampshire state Rep. Mark Warden

A Republican state legislator in New Hampshire told a legislative committee Tuesday that people may "like being in abusive relationships" and can leave at any time.

State Rep. Mark Warden (R-Manchester) made the comments during a state House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee meeting on legislation that would reduce a charge of simple assault from a misdemeanor crime to a violation, the Concord Monitor reports. Warden, a committee member, said that those in abusive relationships can leave at any time and that government regulations were not the solution.

The Concord Monitor reports:

"Some people could make the argument that a lot of people like being in abusive relationships. It's a love-hate relationship. It's very, very common for people to stick around with somebody they love who also abuses him or her," said Rep. Mark Warden, a Republican who represents Deering, Goffstown and Weare, during a meeting of the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee, according to a video provided by Granite State Progress, a liberal advocacy group.

According to the video, Warden added, "Is the solution to those kind of dysfunctional relationships going to be more government, another law? I'd say no. People are always free to leave."

Warden could not be immediately reached for comment by The Huffington Post on Wednesday about his remarks, but he told the Monitor that they had been taken out of context. The committee recommended that the full House of Representatives defeat the legislation, with Warden voting to recommend its passage. Under New Hampshire legislative rules, all bills are debated on the floor and voted upon by the House, with committees providing advice.

Warden says on his website that he is the chairman of the New Hampshire Liberty Alliance, a tea party-allied conservative group in the Granite State that named him legislator of the year. The Union Leader reported that Warden is also affiliated with the Free State Project, a libertarian group that has sought to bring 20,000 people to New Hampshire as part of an effort to take over state government.

Among the legislation he is currently sponsoring are bills to legalize marijuana in New Hampshire and to abolish the state Department of Cultural Resources and distribute its functions to the secretary of state and the state Department of Resources and Economic Development.

The Most Selfish Act…

After learning of Mindy McCready’s suicide, we here at Rantings have to say that Suicide is probably the most selfish act that a person can do!  It may stop YOUR pain, but what about the pain of the family and friends you leave behind?  If you are in such  pain that you are even thinking of killing yourself,  please get help! It’s only a permanent solution for a temporary problem!

Beating The Flu-Courtesy of Sparkpeople.com

Since the Flu is  spreading with a vengeance, here are a few tips to keep from getting it, and some ways to make your recovery quicker

When a virus enters your body, one of three things can happen:

  1. The virus can die, OR
  2. Your immune system can activate and kill the virus, OR
  3. The virus can survive, multiply, and produce a cold or the flu.
How do you keep this from happening?
Prevention
  • The power of produce: Plant foods contain natural disease fighting compounds called phytochemicals and antioxidants. These substances can enhance your immune system. Therefore, eat vegetables and fruits at least 5 times a day, preferably 7-9 times.
  • Exercise: Regular, moderate exercise will stimulate the fighting T cells into doing their job – attacking foreign invaders like germs and viruses.
  • Healthy Lifestyle: To improve your immune system and resistance to disease commit to these guidelines: do not smoke, sleep 7-8 hours each night, eat a nutritious diet that includes breakfast, and avoid (or take steps to reduce) mental stress.
  • Germs: To avoid the spread of germs, wash your hands frequently with warm soapy water (for at least 20 seconds), and do not share cups or food.
  • Water: Drink 8-12 cups of water every day. Water helps to cleanse the body and remove toxins, including germs. By keeping body systems, especially the respiratory system, well hydrated, you can enhance your virus-fighting potential.
After Symptoms Occur
  • "Feed a cold, starve a fever?" Many people say they can never remember whether to starve the cold or the fever. The answer: neither! The best advice is simply to listen to your appetite because being neither hungry nor stuffed will get rid of a cold, flu, or fever any faster. "Starving" an illness is particularly a bad idea. Intentionally restricting calories only makes it harder to recover from an illness.
  • Drink plenty of fluids: Drink significant amounts of water – at least 8-12 cups throughout the day. Additional water is needed not only to help fight infection, but also to combat dehydration brought on by fever. If you have flu-symptoms, vomiting and diarrhea also increase your need for water above the normal 8-cup requirement.
  • Vitamin C: Take 250 milligrams each day for 5-7 days. Although vitamin C will not prevent the cold, it may soften the blow, decrease symptoms (such as a runny nose and sore throat), and possibly shorten the duration of the cold by a day or so. Also drink plenty of vitamin-rich orange or grapefruit juice. These provide vitamin C as well as the fluids and calories your body needs.
  • Have some chicken soup! Researchers have studied the possible benefits chicken soup may have oncolds and flu. While they’re not sure what the exact mechanism is, they believe that the benefit comes from something related to the smell or the taste of the soup. Eating chicken soup (or a soup that smells or tastes like chicken soup) may help increase the flow of mucus and clear nasal passages. It will not help cure or shorten your illness, but it may help relieve symptoms temporarily.
  • Garlic may help stimulate your immune system. Include one to three cloves of garlic each day in your diet by eating foods like: garlic bread, spaghetti sauce, lasagna, salad dressing with garlic, and by adding it to pasta salad, soups and stews. Do not use if you are on a blood thinning medication.
  • Echinacea: This herb is a natural immune enhancer. Use caution if you are allergic to ragweed and other pollens, have kidney problems or are pregnant or lactating. Take 500 milligrams (mg) in capsule form, 3 times a day on the first day symptoms occur. Then take 250 mg, 4 times a day for 10 days.
  • Pamper yourself: Get plenty of rest and relaxation.
Hopefully, by adhering to a healthy lifestyle, you can prevent an illness from occurring in the first place, or at least lessen the severity if one does arise.
Be sure to always talk with your health care provider before taking any herbal, vitamin, or mineral supplement.
